SANAA, 14 Nov — Head of the National Security Agency (NSA) and President Saleh’s advisor, Ali Mohammed al-Ansi Saturday said “Iran and some Shiite groups in Arab countries are supporting the Huthi rebels in north Yemen,” adding “the rebels thought they were strong and refused to respect any of the signed agreements.” Al-Ansi who was speaking to the French La Monde said “we accepted the Qatari mediation because we are seeking peace but at the end all the victims are Yemenis,” and accused the rebels of “trying to internationalize the situation because it serves their interests,” stressing “there will be no new mediations.” He said “some Iranian diplomates are supporting the rebels in this war while the Iranian media outlets are backing them,” asking “what are the activities of the Iranian diplomates in Yemen?” “Shiite groups in Bahrain, Kuwait and UAE are assisting the rebels but the Iranian support of the rebels dates back to before the war. In the 80ties, Hussein al-Huthi and his father, Bader al-Din were in the Iranian city of Qum and after that they adopted the Iranian slogans such as death to America, death to Israel,” he said, but ruled out Yemen might cut diplomatic ties with Iran. In a reply to a question wether President Saleh is grooming his son, Ahmad Ali to succeed him in power, he said “I swear the President doesn’t hope so,” and urged Iran to “stop interfering in the internal affairs of Yemen,” and admitted “the regime in Yemen made mistakes in the past but they were rectified.”
