HODEIDA, 26 Oct — Yemen coastguard Sunday seized a vessel laden with anti-armoured weapons off the beach of Midi on the Red Sea, the independent online news website, News Yemen said quoting ‘informed sources.’  “Five crew members with various non-Arab nationalities were arrested and transferred to the capital, Sanaa for investigations,” said News Yemen, adding “the arms vessel is being seized in Midi.”  The vessel was believed to have been en route to the northwestern coast of Yemen near the border region of Harad where it was planned to hide its cargo in farms and later deliver it to the Zaydi Shiite rebels fighting government forces in north Yemen. Meanwhile, Brigadier General Ali Muhsen al-Ahmar called for investigations into the Chinese arms shipment seized in the port city of Hodeida two weeks ago.  The government had said the shipment entered the country using forged documents and published a black list of arms dealers but the agent of the Chinese company in Yemen, Sheik Hadi Mothana Monday told reporters the “papers of the shipment are not forged and I have a solid proof.”  In related news, the independent website, Marib Press Monday talked about a “second black list of arms dealers,” adding “the Chinese arms shipment could expose many senior officials in the government who are involved in arming the Shiite rebels if an investigation was opened,” and quoted security officials as saying “the Shiite insurgents get their weapons from the arms depots of the ministry of defense.”
